TriMet, Tilikum Crossing Bridge

Reyes provided electrical, telecommunications, CCTV, and lighting design for this new LRT extension, linking Portland State University to downtown Milwaukie. Reyes was ultimately responsible for the project design quality, serving as liaison between the design consultant team to oversee contract administration and quality control.

A truly iconic project, Tilikum Crossing is the first bridge to be built across the Willamette River in more than forty years. Monitors from the U.S. Geological Survey and the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration collect data from the Willamette, where water temperature, speed, and depth inform color-changing LED lights lining Tilikum Crossing’s cables, changing the bridge’s illumination aesthetics to reflect the river’s conditions. River temperature and depth inform color, tides control light locations, and water speed controls lighting pace. The result is a dynamic, interpretive, and award-winning landmark now synonymous with the Portland skyline.
